Theme of conference:
The Epidemiological and Nutritional Transition in Developing Countries: Accelerating progress for nutrition in Africa.
ANEC is working very closely with the International Union of Nutritional Sciences (IUNS) who are co-sponsors and the Nutrition Society (Nutsoc) in the UK who have supported ANEC through publishing of the proceedings. ANEC also provides a platform for The Africa Graduates in Nutrition Network (AGSNet) in recognition of the key leadership roles that they are playing in both promoting and moving the Africa nutrition agenda forward.
By working closely with the leadership team of the Africa Nutrition Leadership Programme (ANLP), ANEC has created a forum for newly trained leaders to demonstrate their leadership skills and support the nutrition agenda in a collegiate atmosphere.
ANEC recognises the important role that the Food Industry can, and continues to play in fulfilling their corporate responsibility and promoting the nutrition agenda in the developing world. For this reason, ANEC values its links with Unilever's global and regional R&D team, one of our major sponsors; and the Nestle Foundation who have contributed in no small measure in the development of the AGSNet.
ANEC is also proud to be associated with the Technical Center for Agricultutal and Rural Cooperation (CTA) in Wageningen, The Netherlands who provided travel fellowships to ANEC.
ANEC III in recognition of the role of the Food Industries, will run a symposium on the contribution of global food companies to the nutrition agenda in Africa. This symposium will attract experts from a number of key players and provide a platform for discussions of mutual interest.
ANEC III will also recognise and honour young and promising scientists working in Africa and promote student activities in the field of nutrition and public health. In this regard, ANEC will be awarding student travel fellowships to the conference.
ANEC also hopes to attract partnership funding to support research projects and interventions with a developmental focus supporting aspects of the MDGs. We are therefore seeking sponsors to support these laudable activities. ANEC is building for the future and although a scientific, professionally run forum, our goal is to empower and enable scientists and practitioners in the field to make a meaningful contribution to training, capacity building and human development in Africa.
